Taking Care of Chickens

By Charlie Herman and Noah Thompson

Here at school we are raising chickens and learning all about how to take care of them. It has been a once in a lifetime experience. We feed the chickens, give them water, and collect their eggs. Then, we sell the eggs at Feria La Paz to make money. We buy food and save money to make extensions and improvements to the chicken coop.

The daily roles and responsibilities are important for the health of the chickens and keeping accurate records. To keep the chickens healthy we have to feed them and change their water four times per day. To keep accurate records we collect eggs four times per day. There is a student in charge of keeping an accurate count each week. Then every time someone comes to buy eggs, there is a student in charge of recording how many eggs we sell and how much money we earn. This data is entered into our spreadsheet.

Throughout the trimester the 6th graders share the roles and responsibilities of taking care of our chickens. All of our eggs are fresh and organic. Come buy them at the Feria La Paz on Wednesday to support our class.
